4 Common Service Issues for Trucks

Nothing can put a damper on revenue like a truck that needs service repair and parts. When you own a trucking business, it's important for you to understand different maintenance issues that can disrupt your business if they aren't managed. Here are four of the most common service issues for trucks and what you can do to avoid it.

1. Refrigerated Trailers

Refrigerated trailers are key for shipping freight that must be kept at a certain controlled temperature. When the trailer breaks down it can be a liability not only for your company but also damage business relationships if your load starts to spoil. Drivers should pay close attention to any signals within the cab that show the trailer is malfunctioning to avoid any potential problems on the road.

2. Tires

Tires are the leading cause of roadside failures for trucks. Flat or balding tires can be very dangerous when you're on the road. To combat this, regularly examine your tires for signs of low tread depth, under inflation, and misaligned axles.

3. Brakes

Faulty brakes are another common service issue. Brakes can become worn down or stop working over time due to wear and tear. Corrosion, air leaks and contamination are additional reasons why your brakes may give out. Take your truck in regularly for brake inspection so you can drive with peace of mind.

4. Electrical System

Finally, we frequently see trucks come into our shop with electrical problems due to a malfunctioning battery, motor or alternator. Be on the lookout for flickering lights, corroded battery's, strange sounds and odors. If you notice any of these signs, please take it to the shop so it can be evaluated by a professional.
