Goal to Further Increase Market Share
Hino Motors Manufacturing U.S.A. President Takashi Ono spoke at presentation attended by both state and local government leaders, he said the company had increased its production by half-a-million trucks during the past decade. Hino's stated goal is to double its current market share in the United States during a six-year period.
To facilitate theproduction of the new Class 8 trucks, Hino will convert a vacant Coldwater creek distribution center in Mineral Wells, West Virginia, into a plant that is four times larger than its current facility just down the road. Hino intends to invest $100 million in the new operation, and the first trucks should roll off the assembly line in 2019. The Toyota subsidiary intends to bring cab assembly operations over from Japan to better localize production. If everything goes as planned, employment at Hino's West Virginia operations will almost double by 2020, from approximately 300 to 550.
